David Schantz, a life-long resident of Irondequoit, taught music education in all of the West Irondequoit schools during his 34-year career. He started playing trumpet in the third grade and received both his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Eastman School of Music. He was one of the original Irondequoit Concert Band members, and in 1977 became its conductor, a position he held until he was elected Irondequoit Town Supervisor. He was supervisor for eight years, was president of the Irondequoit Land Use Coalition for 12 years, and served two terms on the East Irondequoit School Board. In 2010, he returned as the conductor of the Irondequoit Concert Band.
